Our Library offers a variety of publications regarding Swain County and North Carolina. We share a rich history with our neighboring state of Tennessee. Other publications can be found for Virginia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama as well as books of general reading materials. There is also an area of Cherokee Indian Records along with Native American reading materials. Some of our other records include copies of original Swain County Marriage Licenses from 1881-1914 and Swain County Delayed Birth Records. Our goal is to continue in our efforts to expand upon these records in our library. There is a collection of marriage books for Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Graham Counties written by Merrell Jenkins-Riddle, Ed.D; along with other early editions of Rutherford and Burke Counties. There are early Wills for Macon County and a collection of cemetery books for various counties. We offer a collection of books for sale compiled and written by former residents Merrell Jenkins-Riddle, Ed.D and Duane Oliver. Our family surname section houses a collection of family records and lineage charts compiled by our members and others who wish to share their rich heritage with other researchers. If you have family records, lineage charts or other information that you would like to share with our library, we encourage you to send your manuscript to the society along with any photos that you may have. We showcase a collection of Heritage Books of the following counties: Anson County, Caldwell County, Cherokee County, A Pictorial of Cherokee County, Cleveland County, Graham County, Haywood County, Henderson County, Jackson County, Macon County, Madison County, Onslow County, Old Buncombe County, Person County, Rowan County, Stokes County, Surry County, Swain County, Toe River Valley, Transylvania County and Wilkes County. The genealogy society uses ancestry.com and other web-sites to assist researchers. We have CD's of Census Records, Marriage Records, DAR Records, Immigration Records and more. We are always eager to help! |
